Abstract
Amid escalating Sino-US competition, the volatile Myanmar has emerged as a crucible for China’s geopolitical reconfiguration in the Indo-Pacific region. This article analyses how Beijing leverages its recently launched Four Global Initiatives (4GIs), i.e., the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilisational Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, between 2021 and 2025 in turbulent Myanmar as sophisticated vectors for expanding Human Intelligence operations following the 2021 military coup landscape. By analysing recent developments in Myanmar from the prism of recently launched 4GIs, this study attempts to unravel how benevolent-looking Beijing’s initiatives subtly conceal a strategic convergence of soft power and intelligence primarily aimed at securing the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, stabilising the Junta regime, normalising Pax-Sinica norms and thereby positioning Myanmar as a crucible for China’s narrative war and regional dominance.
