Introduction
Arthashastra says the seven constituents of a nation are the king, the minister, the country, the fort, the treasury, the army, and the ally. The security of a nation, however, is a complex balance between internal stability, m aterial readiness, and strategic external relations. This balance can be achieved by a strong king (central power) who prevents internal dissent and anarchy, ensures a strong treasury through which material and physical readiness can be guaranteed and carries out extensive geopolitical engagements to prevent external aggression. An interesting White paper came out from European Union “European Defence – Readiness 2030”, in short it tells us that Europe has been lagging behind in its defence and will need to massively use finances to get the capacities for defence production up by many times. This is surprising, as Europe boasts of the best defence industrial complex after the USA.
