Introduction
Till the time India does not make every nut bolt, sensor, Line Replaceable Unit (LRU), land, sea and platform on its own, the dream of being Strategically Autonomous will remain a dream. We will continue to remain aligned and, in a way, dependent on those countries that play the geopolitical shots today. This must have been the thought in the minds of those who brought about changes in the way we perceived and practiced defence production in 2018. The Covid epidemic and subsequent conflicts in the world helped the decision to change policy and look towards our private industry to make India vie towards self-reliance, “Aatmanirbharta”. This article will try to bring out the journey from 2018 till now.
